Procedure for Handling Suspected Underage Users

Protecting our community and enforcing our strict 18+ policy is a top priority. If you have a reasonable suspicion that a user may be a minor, follow this procedure carefully and professionally.

Step 1: Immediately Isolate the User

Step 1: Immediately Isolate the User

Before initiating contact, you must temporarily restrict the user's ability to interact with the server. This prevents them from causing disruption while the verification is pending.

  1. Go to the #🔒┐bot-commands channel.
  2. Mute the user with a clear, logged reason.
-mute <User ID> Age verification underway

Step 2: Choose Your Communication Method

Step 2: Choose Your Communication Method

You have two options for contacting the user to request verification. The Verification Ticket method is generally recommended for its reliability.

  • Option A: ModMail

    • Pros: Keeps your identity as a moderator anonymous. The user sees replies from "Staff."
    • Cons: Users may have DMs from non-friends or bots blocked, leading to slower response times.
  • Option B: Verification Ticket (Recommended)

    • Pros: Creates a channel they are guaranteed to see and get notifications for. It is the more reliable method of contact.
    • Cons: The user will see which moderator is speaking to them.

Step 3: Initiate Contact and Request Verification

Step 3: Initiate Contact and Request Verification

Once you have chosen your method, open a ticket and clearly explain the situation.

To Open the Ticket:

  • If using ModMail: In #🔒┐bot-commands, type:
    !newthread <USER_ID>

  • If using Verification Tickets: In #🔒┐bot-commands, type:
    &openfor <User ID> Verify

What to Ask For:

Go to the newly created ticket channel. You need to be very clear about what is required.

Verification Ticket Shortcut

If using a Verification Ticket, you can simply type verifynow to have the bot automatically send the detailed requirements to the user.

Template Message for Manual Sending

Hello,

As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe, 18+ environment, we occasionally need to verify a user's age. Your account has been temporarily muted while we conduct this verification.

To resolve this, please provide a single selfie that includes the following:

  1. Your face.
  2. A government-issued ID with the photo and year of birth clearly visible. All other information (name, address, ID number, etc.) must be censored or covered.
  3. A handwritten note showing your full Discord Username (e.g., Username#1234) and today's date.

This photo is for verification purposes only and will be handled confidentially. Once your age is confirmed, the ticket and the image will be deleted. You will remain muted until this process is complete.

Step 4: Finalizing the Process

Step 4: Finalizing the Process

There are three possible outcomes. Follow the appropriate steps for each.

If the user provides a photo that meets all the requirements and confirms they are over 18:

  1. Unmute the user: -unmute <User ID> Verification successful
  2. Assign the verified role if they do not already have it.
  3. Send a concluding message like, "Thank you for your cooperation! You have been unmuted."
  4. Close the ticket.

If the user does not respond to your request:

  1. Wait a reasonable amount of time (e.g., 2-3 days).
  2. If there is still no response, you may permanently ban the user.
  3. Use the reason: Failure to comply with age verification.

If the user explicitly refuses to verify or becomes aggressive/abusive:

  1. You do not need to wait.
  2. Issue a permanent ban immediately.
  3. Use the reason: Refused age verification.
