Moderation Guide: Rule-Specific Procedures¶
This document provides the standard operating procedures for handling violations of specific server rules. It is a supplement to the Zero-Tolerance Offenses and Warning Procedures guides.
Category 1: Respect, Behavior, and Identity¶
These rules govern how members interact with each other to maintain a respectful environment.
Rule 2.3: Do not try to down-talk or bully people you do not know.
Procedure:
- Assess the severity.
- For minor comments, a verbal warning is sufficient.
- For more direct or severe bullying, issue a formal warning with
-warn. - If the user is a repeat offender for this behavior, proceed with a ban.
Rule 2.6: Falsely claiming marginalized identities to deceive, provoke, or manipulate others will result in a ban.
Procedure:
- This is a serious offense that erodes trust.
- Issue an immediate formal warning.
- If they have any prior warnings for this or continue the behavior, a ban is warranted.
Rules 6.6 & 6.7: Respect staff decisions and do not argue in public chat.
Procedure:
- Do not engage in a public argument.
- Politely ask the user to continue the conversation in Modmail.
"Please bring this to ModMail so we can discuss it privately. We won't be discussing it further here."
- If they continue to argue or disrupt chat, issue a formal warning or a temporary mute to de-escalate.
Category 2: DM and Privacy Conduct¶
These procedures require investigation before action is taken.
Rules 3.1 & 3.2: Do not DM users with restrictive roles; Do not send unsolicited friend requests.
Procedure:
When you receive a report, follow this investigation checklist:
- Check the Reporter's Roles:
- If they have the
DM Friendlyrole, politely inform them that we cannot act on the report because of their role. - If they have the
Ask Before DMorDO NOT DMrole, proceed to the next step.
- If they have the
- Investigate (for
Ask Before DMrole only):- Check the
#ask-to-dmchannel for any messages between the two users to ensure no consent was given. - Briefly check
#user-logsto confirm the reporter didn't just add the role to make a false report.
- Check the
- Check the Offender's History: Use
-warnings <User ID>to check for prior DM-related offenses. - Take Action:
- If this is their first offense, issue a formal warning.
- If they have prior warnings for any DM-related misconduct, proceed with a ban.
Rule 3.3: Do not send unsolicited nudes.
Procedure:
- Confirm with the reporter (via screenshot) that the message was unsolicited.
- Check the
#ask-to-dmchannel as a precaution. - Check the offender's history using
-warnings. - If this is their first DM-related offense, issue a formal warning. If they have prior warnings, ban them.
Category 3: Kink and Dynamic Discussion¶
These rules ensure that kink-related conversations remain safe and consensual.
Rule 4.1: Respect others' dynamics.
Procedure:
- Issue a verbal warning.
- If they continue or argue, escalate to a formal warning.
- A repeat history of this offense should result in a ban.
Rule 4.2: No shaming others about how they choose to express their dynamic.
Procedure:
- De-escalate immediately.
- Publicly ask them to stop and direct them to the proper channels for concerns. > "This conversation is not appropriate for this chat. If you have a legitimate concern, please bring it to ModMail or Kirin's DMs."
- If they persist, issue a formal warning and/or a temporary mute.
Rule 4.3: All public kink discussion must remain consensual and non-pressuring.
Procedure:
- Assess the severity.
- For minor oversteps, a verbal warning is fine.
- For pressuring behavior or non-consensual roleplay, issue an immediate formal warning.
- Repeat offenses warrant a ban.
Category 4: Content and Channel Usage¶
These rules govern what can be posted and where.
Rules 8.1 & 8.8: No divisive topics (politics, religion, firearms regulations).
Procedure:
- Issue a verbal warning.
- If they continue, escalate to a formal warning.
- Ban repeat offenders.
Rule 8.2: Do not discuss drug-related topics outside of 🍪᠈trippy-treehouse.
Procedure:
- Issue a verbal warning and direct them to the correct channel.
- If they persist in the wrong channel, issue a formal warning.
- Ban repeat offenders.
Rule 8.3: Do not post content that includes blood play or anything that pierces the skin.
Procedure:
- Take a screenshot of the content and share it with the staff team for documentation.
- Delete the offending message immediately.
- Issue a formal warning to the user.
- Ban repeat offenders.
Rules 8.6 & 8.7: No pictures with real firearms; discussions of firearms belong in 🦷᠈other-hobbies.
Procedure:
- Delete any violating images.
- Verbally direct the conversation to the correct channel.
- If they continue to post in the wrong place, issue a formal warning.
- Ban repeat offenders.
Rule 8.12: Do not spam channels! You will be muted.
Procedure:
- No manual action needed. Allow the auto-moderator to handle spam detection and mutes.
Rules 9.1 & 9.2: Keep venting/trauma talk in designated channels.
Procedure:
- Verbally warn and gently redirect the user to
#ventingor other appropriate support channels. - If the message is particularly severe or disruptive, you may delete it.
- If they continue, issue a formal warning.
- Ban repeat offenders.
Rule 9.3: Please use spoiler tags for sensitive content, even in appropriate channels.
Procedure:
- Delete the unsanctioned message and issue a verbal warning, explaining how and why to use spoiler tags.
